Maternal determinants of low birth weight- a record-based study from a tertiary care centre in central India

Background: Birth weight is a major determinant of child’s health and nutrition. There are various factors which determine birth like maternal age, parity, socio economic status etc. A new born weighing less than 2.5 kg classified as low (LBW) baby. Low can be prevented by improving socio-economic the community, antenatal care also providing proper education. Methods: record-based study was carried out in tertiary facility central India. Labour room records from January 2021 to December were reviewed. The details on weight, gender, gestational mode delivery obtained recorded. data entered Microsoft office excel software. Statistical analysis with help open Epi. Results: Out 4266 studied 46.65% mothers age group 21-25 years 53.52% multiparas. proportion LBW found 41.30%. have significant association between mother, residence gender Conclusions: In this study, sociodemographic factors, multiparity has contributed substantially LBW. Hospitals should inform pregnant women about importance appropriate at conception. It high time discuss aftereffects older detail focus more biological components underlying these associations.
